  • Note: Instructor approval AND successful completion of English 10 or Advanced English 10. Senior students need successful completion of one of the Approaches to Literature OR AP Language & Composition. Should have at least B+ in their current ENG course.

AP English Literature and Composition is offered to students in Grade 11 or 12 who demonstrate language skills capable of performing at an advanced level as well as a strong desire to study literature. Course study includes extensive reading, an in-depth analysis of selected literary passages, and concentration on timed essay writing. Student commitment to improvement and interest in literary studies should be strong and genuine. In accordance with the College Board Standard, students will develop a wide-ranging vocabulary, a variety of sentence structures, a logical organization, and effective use of rhetoric, including controlling tone and maintaining a consistent voice. Students enrolled will be expected to take the College Board exam in May.
