Islamic Education

ASD has commissioned the writing of a purpose-built Islamic Education curriculum based on the UAE Ministry of Education Standards. According to the MOE and KHDA, Emirati students must be enrolled in Islamic Studies courses, however, from the 2022-2023 school year, Islamic Education is offered at ASD as an elective for any interested high school student as a semester elective course. Individual course entries in the online course guide provide course information, and to access the UAE Ministry of Education Islamic Education Standards that are used to shape the content of the course, please click on the relevant grade level below.

Graduation Requirements:

It is our understanding that the UAE high school equivalency is required for students who graduate from a school in the UAE and who might pursue a job opportunity in the future at a government or government-related organization in the UAE. It is possible that there may be similar requirements for other GCC nationals. Additionally, some universities in Gulf and Middle Eastern countries have required in the past the UAE equivalency certificate to admit new students. Part of this process may involve taking exams in Arabic and in Islamic Studies.

As part of our social studies framework, teachers use the C3 Inquiry Arc as the basis of instruction and assessment in Islamic Education. The table below describes the phases of the C3 Inquiry Arc:
