Individualized Science and Social Studies blends science, social studies, and literacy topics into an engaging interdisciplinary experience. Students explore biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space sciences, and/or culture, civics, government, economics, geography, and history, depending on their individual learning needs and interests. Learning is tailored through leveled reading, direct instruction, research projects, and hands-on activities. In science, students tackle real-world problems using the scientific method and following the progression of the Next Generation Science Standards. In social studies, students examine history and current events, fostering critical thinking and making connections between the past and the present. Modification of the curriculum to meet student’s specific learning needs ensures instruction that is rigorous, accessible, and meaningful and prepares learners to contribute as responsible and compassionate community members.
