NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FAMILIES
Welcome to the ASD family!
We are excited that you are joining us at the elementary school!
What do we believe in the elementary school?
In the elementary school at ASD, we believe in educating the whole child. We celebrate a learning environment where students are treated with the utmost respect and that instills our school’s values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect and responsibility.
We celebrate and respect children as resilient, capable, competent learners who are full of wonder and potential.
We value the diversity of our community and appreciate the unique contributions of each family, culture, and background.
We believe in the education of the whole child. While daily schedules and routines vary between grade levels, all children in the ES engage in learning experiences in the core subjects (literacy, math, social studies, science) and with specialized educators in the disciplines of music, art, physical education, STEAM, counseling, library, and Arabic.
What to do this Summer?
- Read and learn: Encourage your children to read and learn over the summer to help prevent the summer slide. Visit your local library or bookstore to find books that your child will enjoy, or look for online resources and educational programs.
- Set a routine: While summer is a time to relax and enjoy, it can be helpful to set a routine for your family. This can include regular bedtimes, meals, and activity times to help everyone stay on track and feel more organized.
- Stay active: Summer is a great time to get outside and be active as a family. Plan outdoor activities like biking, hiking, swimming, or playing sports together. You can also try new activities like yoga or dance classes.
- Embrace nature: Spend time in nature by going for a hike, visiting a national park, or going camping. Nature can help reduce stress, improve mood, and provide a sense of tranquility and calm.
- Unplug and connect: While it's important to stay connected with technology, it's also important to unplug and connect with each other as a family. Plan a day or weekend without technology and focus on quality time together.
- Volunteer and give back: Summer is a great time to volunteer as a family and give back to your community. Look for volunteer opportunities that align with your interests and values.
- Try new things: Use summer as an opportunity to try new things as a family. This can include trying new foods, learning a new skill or hobby, or exploring a new part of your town or city.
- Set goals: Encourage your children to set goals for the summer, whether it's to read a certain number of books, learn a new skill, or achieve a personal best in a sport. Setting goals can help provide motivation and a sense of accomplishment.
- Practice self-care: Encourage your family to practice self-care over the summer by getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and taking time for relaxation and reflection.
- Create memories: Finally, use summer as a time to create memories with your family that will last a lifetime. Take lots of photos, plan fun outings, and enjoy the time you have together.
