Individualized Literacy Studies encompasses reading, writing, listening, speaking, and language use. The course follows the Common Core State Standards and uses each student’s individualized learning goals which modify the curriculum to meet their specific learning needs. Instruction combines foundational phonics skills interventions at each students’ current level, with comprehension of their current grade-level topics through access to modified texts and adaptations using technology resources. Individualized Literacy Studies seeks to broaden and strengthen every student’s skills in Language Arts, while also developing connections across subject areas by using reading and writing as vehicles for learning content throughout the middle years.
