Individualized Literacy Studies encompasses reading, writing, listening, speaking, and language use to guide learners towards becoming stronger communicators. The course follows the Common Core State Standards for Literacy, in combination with each student’s individualized learning goals which modify the curriculum to meet their specific learning needs. Instruction combines foundational phonics skills interventions at each student’s current level, alongside rigorous comprehension of their current grade-level topics through access to modified texts and adaptations using technology resources with integrity. Individualized Literacy Studies seeks to broaden and strengthen every student’s skills in Language Arts topics, while also developing connections across subject areas by using reading and writing as vehicles for learning content throughout the middle years.
