5 Minutes with Elliot Wilde

Elliot Wilde

In the latest of our Faculty Highlight series, we take 5 minutes to get to know Elliot Wilde.

What is your role at ASD?

I teach 4th grade in elementary school.

How long have you been in ASD?

This is my 4th year at ASD.

Why did you choose to be an educator?

My passions have always been centered around helping others and working with children. Teaching allows me to do both at the same time! I come from a family with a very diverse background both ethnically and in life experiences, so I feel this gives me a unique ability to connect with children and families from all walks of life.

What is your favorite book/quote/movie?

That is a very challenging question! Right now I am reading the Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins and it is fantastic. My favorite quote is, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." ~Barack Obama. My favorite movie might have to be a documentary named "Hoop Dreams." It always inspired me to do my best.

What is your favorite class or topic to teach in ASD?

I enjoy teaching science because it can be engaging, messy, frustrating, wondrous, eye-opening, and fun all at once.

Share something that makes ASD special

ASD is special because it gives students the skills, experiences, and resources to develop as learners well beyond the walls of the campus.

Share your favorite ASD memory

My students asked me if they could have a "fort party" at the beginning of last school year. I had never heard of a "fort party," but they explained it to me and it seemed fun and creative. They worked hard to earn the party through our classroom management system and they were highly motivated to do what was expected of them each day. When they finally earned their party it was so amazing to see them all come together and run it on their own. I've never seen students enjoy something together so much.
